Welcome to the Tri-Edge Skating Club!

We’d like to Re-Introduce ourselves to you; we are the Tri-Edge Skating Club! While you may not have heard our new name before, you may well have heard of or skated with one or more of our legacy Clubs in the past.

The Tri-Edge Skating Club is a not-for-profit skating organization that represents the recent amalgamation of the Milverton, Monkton and Wellesley Skating Clubs, each with their own membership of skaters local to their respective areas.

We offer several of Skate Canada’s endorsed programming including PreCanSkate, CanSkate, Rising Stars (Wellesley only), and StarSkate to over 100 eager and talented skaters! Our club skates in Monkton on Tuesdays (at the Elma Logan Recreation Complex) from 5:00-6:50PM, and in Milverton on Thursdays (at the Perth East Recreation Complex) from 5:00-6:50PM, and in Wellesley on Fridays (at the Bill Gies Recreation Centre) from 4:30 - 7:20PM. In addition to our base skating lessons, our season offers both an Elements Event in February and a final Showcase at the end of the season, both hosted in Wellesley. This provides a variety of options and opportunities for our skaters, as well as our coaching team throughout the year.

Whether you are a new member, or a returning skater to any of our three locations, we are thrilled that you have joined us for another exciting season of skating. We are Learn to Skate champions!  We strive to offer fun and affordable Learn to Skate programs and Figure Skating programs to our communities, Townships and surrounding areas.

Our Values and Mission Statement

The Tri-Edge Skating Club is committed to providing safe and fun skating programs for skaters ages 3 and up, while following the guidelines of Skate Canada's national level instructional requirements. We continually strive to provide a program that aids in the development of the individual skater and allows for a natural progression through the Skate Canada achievement levels as their skills and confidence increases. We are committed to maintaining a positive learning environment for all skaters, coaches, volunteers and community participants as outlined in our Code of Conduct.

Fundraising

In order to continue to offer high quality skating programs at an affordable price, the Tri-Edge Skating Club must participate in fundraising ventures.  Due to the increase in ice costs and operating expenses, many skating clubs across the country had to initiate mandatory fundraising levies.  Fortunately, this season we have not had to institute such a fee to their membership.  Please keep your eyes open this season for fundraising opportunities provided by the club.  Your participation is encouraged and much appreciated as it helps our skaters on the ice doing what they love!

Appropriate Attire

Skaters are asked to dress warmly!! The arenas gets very cold in the winter, so please come prepared.  Warm jackets, sweaters, and several layers are recommended.  Snowpants are discouraged as they can make it difficult for skaters to get back up after they have fallen.  Rather, layers of warm pants and/or lined wind pants are preferred.  Mitts and gloves are a must.  Your skater will not be allowed on the ice without them.  Not only do they protect against the cold, but they also protect them from being cut by skate blades!!!
In terms of skaters, for Parent and Tot and CanSkate, either a hockey skate or figure skate can be used.  Ensure that the skate fits well and has proper ankle support.  Plastic and/or molded skaters are not recommended.  Blades must not be rusted and should always have a good sharpening prior to starting the season.

For our StarSkaters, figure skates are mandatory.  A good leather boot, with a quality blade and toe pick, and good ankle supports are a must.  Ensure skates are kept sharp and for sharpening, take them to a location that is familiar with figure skate sharpening as the blade on a figure skate is very different than one on a hockey skate.  As a rule of thumb, skates should be sharpened for every 20 hours spent on the ice.

Movin’ On Up

Formal progress reports are given to each skater twice during the season – before Christmas and again at the end of the season.  However, if the coaching staff assesses a skater as ready to move onto a new level within the club, they are moved as soon as possible.  There is no need to wait for the formal progress report.  If such a situation arises, the coaches will speak with the parents about this possibility.  If the skater does move up, where appropriate, the difference in fees between the levels must be paid in full prior to moving onto the new level.

Cancellation of Lessons

Depending on the weather, lessons may have to be cancelled.  The Tri-Edge Skating Club will try very hard to not have to cancel lessons, but the safety of our membership comes first.  We certainly do not want anyone driving to and from skating in bad winter weather.  Any lesson cancellations will be made by 2 pm on the day of skating and will be emailed to our membership and posted to our Facebook page.  Please ensure that you check your email frequently for any important updates.  Tri-Edge Skating Club is not responsible for the make-up of lost lessons
